Rate Your FPL Team With AI: Talk FPL With ChatGPT or Claude

Ask ChatGPT or Claude to rate your FPL team and the answer usually sounds confident and is often wrong. The assistant learned about football months ago and doesn't follow the season since, so it:

  • doesn't know who's injured, suspended or out of form. It suggests a player who has been ruled out for a month, or one who moved clubs in the summer.
  • gets prices wrong. It plans a transfer with last season's prices, and the move doesn't fit your budget.
  • doesn't know the current rules. Defensive contribution points (DEFCON) and the two sets of chips, one for each half of the season, are newer than most of what it learned. It forgets that you can't have more than three players from one club, or how many free transfers you've saved.
  • can't see your team. You paste your 15 players, your bank and your chips, then correct it when it gets them wrong, and do it all again in the next chat.

So you end up explaining the game to the AI instead of the other way round.

The fix: connect your assistant to FPL Cat

FPL Cat is a free connector (an MCP server) that gives Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants live Fantasy Premier League data and our predictions. Once it's added, your assistant looks things up instead of guessing:

  • This week's data: injuries and doubts with FPL's news, prices and price changes, fixtures, penalty takers, live bonus points.
  • The rules, built in: squad limits, the three-per-club rule, DEFCON, chips per half of the season, free transfers. Our tools apply them, so the assistant doesn't have to remember them.
  • Your own team: give it your FPL team ID once and it reads your squad, bank, free transfers and chips left. No pasting, no password.
  • Predicted points: our model's points for every player for the next gameweek, so "who should I captain?" gets a real answer.

You keep talking to your assistant the way you do now: "rate my team", "who should I transfer out?", "Saka or Palmer?". The difference is that the answer comes from this week's numbers, with a card that shows them: your squad on the pitch, a player's card, the fixture grid or the injury list.

Rate your FPL team with AI, in the chat

The question most people start with is "rate my team". With FPL Cat connected, ask "Rate my FPL team, ID 1234567" and your assistant gets the same AI team rating as Rate My Team on our site: your squad scored out of 100 against the best team your budget buys, its predicted points for the next gameweek and the next six, and the three changes worth the most, with three replacements each. Then keep going in the same chat: "who should I sell first?", "who could replace him?", "pick my lineup".

FPL Cat's AI team rating card inside an AI chat: the squad on the pitch with each player's kit and predicted points, the score out of 100, and the top three fixes with replacement players

It takes about a minute to set up. Here's how.

How to add FPL Cat to Claude

This works on claude.ai and the Claude desktop app, on every plan including Free. Free plans can have one custom connector.

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors.

  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.

  3. Name it FPL Cat and paste this URL, then click Continue:

    https://fplcat.com/mcp

  4. For Authentication, choose No sign in, then click Add.

  5. Start a chat and just ask: "Rate my FPL team, ID 1234567" or "Who should I captain this week?" There's nothing to type or select first: Claude uses FPL Cat by itself when your question needs it.

If Claude answers without FPL Cat, click the + button at the bottom left of the message box, open Connectors and check FPL Cat is switched on for that chat.

The first time Claude uses one of the tools, it may ask for permission; allow it. Once it's added, FPL Cat is in your Claude account, so you can use it from the Claude mobile app as well.

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it once for everyone: Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web, with the same URL and no sign-in. Members then find it under Customize → Connectors.

How to add FPL Cat to ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, FPL Cat is a custom MCP server. You add it on the web (chatgpt.com); on a Business or Enterprise workspace, an admin may have to allow custom apps first.

  1. Open Plugins in the sidebar (or go to chatgpt.com/plugins).

  2. Click Add, then Create custom MCP server.

  3. Fill in the form: name it FPL Cat, add a short description ("Fantasy Premier League data and predictions"), and under Connection paste this URL:

    https://fplcat.com/chatgpt

  4. Under Authentication, choose No authentication, not OAuth: FPL Cat needs no sign-in, and OAuth would make the connection fail. Accept the warning about custom servers and create it.

  5. Start a new chat and ask your question. If ChatGPT answers without FPL Cat, type @, pick FPL Cat and ask again.

ChatGPT shows a warning for every custom MCP server, because it can't vouch for servers you add yourself. FPL Cat only reads FPL data: it can't make transfers or log in to your FPL account.

Other assistants: the FPL MCP server

Anything that supports remote MCP servers can use FPL Cat. The server is at https://fplcat.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no key needed).

  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http fpl-cat https://fplcat.com/mcp
  • Cursor: add it to mcp.json: {"mcpServers": {"fpl-cat": {"url": "https://fplcat.com/mcp"}}}
  • VS Code: add it to .vscode/mcp.json: {"servers": {"fpl-cat": {"type": "http", "url": "https://fplcat.com/mcp"}}}

What you can ask

Fourteen tools sit behind the connector, on the same engine as the site:

Ask What you get
"Rate my FPL team, ID 1234567" Your score out of 100, points for the next gameweek and the next six, and the three changes worth the most, with three replacements each
"Who should I transfer out?" The same fixes, with your bank and free transfers
"Pick my lineup for GW6" Our best XI, bench order and captain from your 15, and what to change
"Who should I captain?" The best captains in the game, or from your squad
"Is Saka worth buying?" / "Saka or Palmer?" Next gameweek's points and where they come from, chance of playing, return and haul chances, the reasons (minutes, penalties, threat) and his next six fixtures
"Best midfielders under £7m" Players ranked by our model for the next gameweek, with their fixtures
"Best £100m team" Our best Wildcard squad for the next six gameweeks
"Which teams have the easiest fixtures?" Our fixture difficulty for every club, as on the fixture page
"Arsenal injuries" FPL's injury and doubt flags with the news, as on the injury list
"Who's rising in price?" FPL's own progress to the next price change
"Who's on penalties for Chelsea?" Penalty, corner and free kick takers
"Provisional bonus in the Arsenal game" Live BPS and bonus during matches, as on bonus points live
"Should I bench boost this week?" Which chips you have left and whether to play one now
"How did my team do?" Your gameweek: points against the average, ranks, captain, bench, transfers

You can also send a screenshot of your team instead of the ID: the assistant reads the 15 names and passes them on. It needs the whole squad, bench included.

Answer cards

Every answer comes with a card that shows the numbers, so the assistant's reply can focus on the why. The team rating card is above. Ask about one player and you get his card with the player page's numbers: chances of a return, a haul and a blank, where his points come from, the reasons behind them and his next six fixtures:

FPL Cat's player card for Saka in an AI chat: his kit and 5.9 predicted points, 51% chance of a goal or assist, the facts Nailed, On penalties and Big threat, a points breakdown and his next six fixtures

Fixture questions get the fixture grid, with our difficulty from ① easiest to ⑤ hardest:

FPL Cat's fixture difficulty card: every Premier League club's next six fixtures, each coloured by our difficulty rating

Each card links to the full page on FPL Cat.

What's free

Everything the connector returns is what the site gives for free: next gameweek's points for every player, team totals, the free Rate My Team result and the £100m Wildcard squad. The six-gameweek detail for every player, more replacement options and the full chip plan are in FPL Cat Pro, as on the site.

Your data

A tool call sends us what the tool needs: your team ID or the player names you asked about. We look up your public FPL squad the same way Rate My Team does, and keep that copy of the squad as the site does. Our usage stats record which tools are used; if you give a team ID, they count it under a scrambled code so we can see how many people come back, never the ID itself. There's no FPL login involved, ever. More in our privacy policy.

Questions

What is an FPL connector, or an MCP server?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way AI assistants plug into outside tools. Claude calls these "connectors" and ChatGPT calls them apps or custom MCP servers. FPL Cat's MCP server gives your assistant live Fantasy Premier League data and our predictions, so it answers from this week's numbers instead of what it remembers from training.

Is it free?

Yes. The connector is free and needs no account. It gives the same data the site gives for free.

Do I need my FPL password?

No, never. FPL Cat only needs your team ID, which is public: it's the number after /entry/ in the address of your FPL Points page (fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1234567/event/6). You can also paste the whole link.

Can it make transfers or set my captain?

No. The tools only read FPL data. You make your moves in the FPL app as usual.

Does it work on my phone?

In Claude, yes: add the connector on the web or desktop and it's there in the Claude mobile app too. In ChatGPT, you add custom MCP servers on the web.

My assistant isn't using FPL Cat

Check the connector is switched on for that chat (the + menu in Claude, @ in ChatGPT). If you have other FPL tools connected, say "use FPL Cat" in your question, or turn the others off for that chat.

FPL Cat is an independent fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by the Premier League or Fantasy Premier League. The projections are our model's, the same ones behind Rate My Team and the player pages.
